Over past few weeks I’ve had several national publications reach out to us to ask what the future will hold. For the most part they want design trends for 2020, but that got me thinking about some sobering statistics around social media.

Nearly 60% of all the people on planet earth are on the Internet. There are about 3.5 billion active social media users and they are on social platforms about 142 minutes a day on average.

If you want to find audiences for certain products or services there is great likelihood that they can be found digitally in some shape or form. Gone are the days of the single delivery method of marketing campaigns such as print or TV.

For the past several years, while I’ve been presenting, I’ve mentioned that Instagram is the new Amazon. And this year that came true. Instagram is now fully shoppable with the elusive “likes” tenant disappearing before our very eyes.

Instagram announced a few months ago that the “likes” function was going to randomly disappear as we roll through 2020. What that means is that content will be based on content not on crowd sharing popularity.

These are big changes in the world of marketing, and the word “sharing” has become synonymous with “marketing” on some level. Getting the word out isn’t enough unless it’s shared across a variety of platforms and audiences.

In short, great creative isn’t enough, buying ads isn’t enough, public relations isn’t enough – well, then what is? For most marketing campaigns to be successful you need the right messaging paired with the right digital media.

Digital isn’t an add-on service anymore – it is the service in marketing. The great news about all things digital is that everything is measurable if your platforms are set up right.

All creative can be measured and attributabed to ROI if your campaigns are tracked appropriately. That’s right, your return on creative investment can be quantified.
