Old Items and New Opportunities

By Bruno Povejsil, studiobstyle guest blogger

This month, studiobstyle has been exploring a new frontier: digital retail, aka e-commerce. Over the years, we’ve built up quite the collection of interior design goodies, from vintage dishware to high-end furniture, and the studiobstylehome store is our way of making that huge inventory available to you. Items in need of a home go up at bargain prices everyday to the studiobstylehome store, as well as our instagram and Facebook Marketplace. Many of these items have been part of studiobstyle designs, stagings, and photoshoots in the past, and Barbara Schmidt remembers all of them. She shared a few of those stories with me about items that are up for sale right now.

Haand Cloudware Ceramic Vases

Only one of these vases is available from studiobstylehome, but the collection it comes from is truly gorgeous, reminiscent of a summer sky with wispy clouds. “I found the Haand potters when I was shooting for Coastal Living magazine in Rhode Island,” Barbara says. “They were just lovely to me, and sent some of their vases for our shoot with the amazing photographer Annie Schlecter. I remember being nervous because Annie is one of the top interior design photographers in the business.

We featured these vases in and around the home and then I shipped them back to Haand. I knew they were something special, though, and made a note to find them again for another project.

About a year later, I was shooting for Pella Windows and Doors and purchased a grouping for my own collection. We are parting with one of them now to make room for more of our props.” At the time of writing, Haand is not producing or offering vases in this style on their website, though they do have Cloudware dishes, mugs, and straight vases. We’re excited for this beautiful and rare vase to find a loving home.

Vintage Italian Glassware

Barbara told me this vintage SVE glass decanter was a lucky find from a shop in Minneapolis. “I love iridescent glassware because of the glow. Place glass in front of a light source and watch the light bounce all around the room. It's a favorite decor element that we look for while hunting vintage items.

What I like best about this particular piece is how light the color is. Most of the versions I've seen are cobalt and too dark for some of our lighter and brighter wet bars.”

This decanter is not just decorative; it has a tight seal and stopper, so it’s a fully-functional vessel for storing or aerating your liquors and wines.

Woven Kitchen Trivets

This “item” is actually two sets of similar items. The first set is the smaller hot pads, which are from Fog Work Linen, a Japanese lifestyle brand. They’re made of woven denim salvage, which is a combination of words that makes me think “shredded jeans,” but the actual product is these cute squares of color. Barbara loves them for their “homemade appeal.”

The second set is the larger, woven chenille hot pads. “These things are heavy duty,” notes Barbara, “they’re great if you need to grab something hot, but what I really love about them is their color. The golden yellow is great with blue pieces, and I discovered that the washed green sets off black dishes very nicely.”

The real value of these hot pads is their combination of function and aesthetic appeal. They fit into just about any kitchen, either hanging from the wall or as a colorful stack in a dish near the stove.

And More…

As a newcomer to the studiobstyle team, it’s fascinating to work in the same place as so many beautiful and hard-to-find items, and to learn their stories. The studiobstylehome store has even more vintage pieces and rare finds, each waiting for a chance to shine in your next interior design undertaking. As we dig further into our inventory, we’re sure to put more great finds up on the storefront soon, so be sure to check Instagram or our website every so often!
