TOP Trend at the 2019 KBIS Show

We’ve taken a shine to you

by Barbara Schmidt

We’ve seen it before – the chrome finish – why is there such a strong resurgence now? We can claim it’s cyclical, but I think something stylistically is going on as well. Chrome is the obvious antidote to feeling the brushed silver finish overload and it’s also a push back on the gold and brass trends.

Are we sick of brass? Oh no, but it takes a serious homeowner or designer to swap out all their fixtures and hardware to gold. It’s even harder to blend gold into an existing silver color scheme without it looking mismatched.

Instead, picture chrome blending to already existing silver décor. Homeowners can easily update without a massive swap out and expense. We saw new chrome hardware and fixtures everywhere at the National Kitchen and Bath Show (KBIS) 2019.

Here were some of our new product finds:

Chrome Home

Are you drawn to the shiny element in the room? Me too. I walked right up the Danze by Gerber display for their new Avian collection. So pretty I thought and then I realized this is chrome coming back into our bathroom suites as the new finish of the year for KBIS.

As a designer, I love the square stature of the Avian collection. The slightly up lifted handles look like a glider coming down to rest. This faucet collection will be available this summer and for a dealer near you check here.

The new Kallista Klyne Chrome faucet with will be available toward the end of 2019.

Calling Chrome

The very sophisticated new Klyne collection from Kallista is inspired by modern architectural elements found in Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater. The famous structure has strong vertical and horizontal lines.

The faucet appears to have cantilevered sections that float above a structural base.

It’s an understated piece of sculpture for your bathroom. There’s what I call a “Tuxedo” version as well. It is chrome mixed with matte black. To find a dealer, check here.

Pulling for You

Want to know what’s trending in door and cabinet hardware? Check out Emtek. They have so many innovations this year but one consistent find is the chrome finish.

Featured here is the new Modern Rectangular Warwick Pull. These pulls are so deceivingly well designed. As you grip the pull, you can feel that the inside edges are faceted. These details are what help to make Emtek’s product line up so desirable.
