My First Week as The Intern by Morgan Orcholski

If you asked me where I thought I’d be 6 months ago, driving around the Twin Cities shopping for sets, managing some social media accounts, touring houses, and eating a lot of burgers was not even a thought in my mind (except for the burgers. I love burgers). When I left for an internship with Disney World in January my plan was to receive another internship with a Disney studio and spend my summer on a coast, but here I am and I wouldn’t have it any other way. During my first few weeks as the studiobstyle Digital Media Intern, I have learned more than I did in my three years of college.

Attention to detail
I watched Barb and many of the clients adjust a vase for ten minutes to get the perfect angle for the shot. It’s really the little details that make a big difference in the final product.

A lot of shopping
It’s important to have a variety of prop-tions (prop options punny lol) going into shoot day because some things look different in the store than on set. Also, if you have multiple options as opposed to one, decisions on what to use are forced to be made instead of wondering if there is a better vase out there than the one you bought.

Multitasking
As I am writing this blog post, I am also downloading images for a magazine spread, planning social media for today, listening to Barb talk about upcoming shoots, and thinking about lunch. If you’re not working on more than one thing at a time, you’ll never get everything done.

Drink a lot of water
The days are long and there is often a lot of standing and lifting. Like any job that involves physical labor, staying hydrated is important to stay healthy and ready to work.

There is a lot of free food
On shoot days we ordered lunch from one of the many restaurants around North East Minneapolis. This has really given me the opportunity to expand my knowledge on burger joints in the area.

After only a few weeks here, this list is just the tip of the iceberg. It’s July first and with two months of summer still left, there is still a lot in store for me. I am excited to see what else I will learn throughout the remainder of the summer (and what else I will eat)!
