It Was The Biggest Set Yet
Designing for Sub-Zero/Wolf
By Barbara Schmidt
Some really great things just happen by accident. While I was searching for just the right wall covering for a luxury master suite, I stumbled across this amazing gold hand-printed paper. It had just the right amount of sheen and just the right amount of subtle pattern. I immediately showed it to our wonderful client and they agreed that the Spencer wall covering was the one for our project.
I called up Alpha Workshops to see about ordering. I was thrilled to discover that not only is it handmade, but Alpha Workshops is a non-profit organization providing creative HIV-positive individuals with training and employment in the decorative arts. They are a wonderful group and we are so happy to support them! Jen at Alpha Workshops was easy to work with and our beautiful hand printed paper arrived just in time for our set construction.
Our builders did an amazing job with the construction of the set. I love seeing all the materials coming in to the studio and the process of building anything makes my heart skip a beat. The 12-foot high walls, Integrity doors, and Alpha Workshops wallpaper created the French Luxury look I envisioned. I have designed over 500 bathrooms during my career as an interior designer and this was by far the largest bathroom I’ve done. The was a thrill to work on and I couldn’t be happier with the final results.
Many thanks to Alpha Workshops, Integrity Windows, Kohler, Baker Furniture, S.A. Baxter, Plato Woodwork, and most of all Sub-Zero/Wolf. It is with gracious gratitude that I thank you for allowing us all to dream it and build it and shoot it. Thank You!
